Choosing bus scheduling software? Here's how Schedulo compares.
If you're looking at Omnibus, Trapeze, Optibus, HASTUS or another TransXChange editor, this page sets out what Schedulo TXC and Schedulo Bus do, how they differ, and how to move your timetables across.
Made for UK bus operators, from timetable to duty card.
Schedulo is a family of desktop apps built in the UK for the people who register, plan and run local bus services.
TransXChange first
Schedulo TXC reads, checks and writes TransXChange 2.4 and 2.5 exactly, checked against the UK PTI profile, so files are ready for BODS before you send them.
Bus and driver scheduling
Schedulo Bus builds vehicle blocks and drivers' duties from your registered timetables and checks every working-time rule, then saves back to Schedulo TXC.
On your own PC
Windows desktop apps with no Schedulo server and no accounts. Your timetables and plans stay on your computer unless you choose to share them.
Licensed offline
A signed licence key unlocks each copy. No licence server and no internet needed to keep working.
No lock-in
Standard TransXChange in and out. Schedulo keeps everything it doesn't edit exactly as it was, so your files still work in other software.
Straight to the people who make it
Newey Transport Services writes, supports and licenses every app, so the team that answers your e-mail is the team that builds the software.
The questions to ask any supplier.
Whichever bus scheduling or TransXChange software you're comparing, these are the questions that matter. Here are Schedulo's answers.
| Question to ask | Schedulo's answer |
|---|---|
| Does it read and write TransXChange 2.4 and 2.5? | Yes, validated against the official schema and the UK PTI profile |
| Can it publish to the Bus Open Data Service (BODS)? | Yes, with checks before you send and reminders before data expires |
| Will it open files made by other software? | Any TransXChange 2.4 or 2.5 file, plus GTFS, CSV and services published on BODS |
| Does it plan vehicle blocks and driver duties? | Yes, in Schedulo Bus, with interworking, interlining and your working-time rules |
| Do timetable and scheduling share one project? | Yes: blocks and duties go back into Schedulo TXC and the TransXChange export |
| Does it need a server, a cloud account or a licence server? | No. The apps run on your PC with a signed, offline key |
| Can colleagues work on the same plan at once? | Yes, live, by a join code, with View, Edit or Full access |
| Does it print timetables, running boards and duty cards? | Yes, in your own colours, printed or saved as PDF |
| Does it show how the timetable really runs? | Yes, live punctuality from BODS in Schedulo TXC |
| Is it built around UK standards? | Yes: TransXChange, NaPTAN, BODS and the UK PTI profile, followed exactly |
Bring your timetables with you.
1. Open what you have
Open the TransXChange files your current software exports, or import your services from BODS. Several files can be combined into one project.
2. Check it
Schedulo TXC checks every file and explains each problem in plain English, taking you straight to the journey or stop concerned.
3. Plan and publish
Plan buses and duties in Schedulo Bus, then publish to BODS. You can run Schedulo alongside your current system while you try it.
Comparing software
Is Schedulo an alternative to Omnibus, Trapeze or Optibus?
Yes. Schedulo TXC covers TransXChange timetable editing, validation and BODS publishing, and Schedulo Bus covers vehicle and driver scheduling, which are the jobs many UK operators use those products for. The best way to decide is to ask for a demonstration with your own timetables.
Can I move my timetables from another TransXChange editor?
Yes. Schedulo TXC opens any TransXChange 2.4 or 2.5 file, whatever software made it, and can import an operator's services from the Bus Open Data Service. Everything it doesn't edit is kept exactly as it was.
Can I use Schedulo alongside my current scheduling system?
Yes. Schedulo reads and writes standard TransXChange, so you can try it next to the software you use today and move across when you're ready.
Do I need both Schedulo TXC and Schedulo Bus?
No. Each app works on its own: Schedulo Bus can import TransXChange files directly. Together, the blocks and duties you plan go back into your Schedulo TXC project and its TransXChange export.
Is Schedulo cloud software?
No. Schedulo TXC and Schedulo Bus are Windows desktop apps, and Schedulo TXC also runs in a browser from one file. There is no Schedulo server or account, and the internet is only needed for maps, NaPTAN stops, BODS and sharing.
How is Schedulo licensed?
Each copy is unlocked with a signed, offline licence key from Licence@schedulo.uk. Keys can run for a set time, to the end of the financial year, or be perpetual, and one key can cover several Schedulo products.
Omnibus, Trapeze, Optibus and HASTUS are trademarks of their owners. Schedulo and Newey Transport Services are not connected with them. This page describes Schedulo; ask each supplier for details of their own products.
