Getting started

What is Schedulo?

A family of transport planning apps made by Newey Transport Services. Schedulo TXC builds, checks and publishes TransXChange timetables, Schedulo Bus plans the vehicle blocks and drivers' duties that run them, and the Licence Manager issues the keys for every app. More products are planned.

What computer do I need?

Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). Schedulo TXC also has a browser version for computers where you can't run the app.

Is there a Mac version?

The apps are made for Windows. Schedulo TXC's browser version opens in a recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, so it can be used on a Mac. Schedulo Bus runs on Windows only.

Is there anything to install?

No. Each app is one program in a zip: unzip it and run it, with no installer and no administrator rights. The first time, Windows may ask you to confirm: choose More info, then Run anyway. Schedulo Bus uses the WebView2 that Windows 10 and 11 already have.

Do I need to be online?

Mostly not. The apps work offline. The internet is only needed for maps, NaPTAN and BODS downloads, live punctuality and working together beyond the office. Schedulo TXC's browser version needs the internet to start, because it checks the licence date online.

Can I see it before I buy?

Of course. Ask for a demonstration or a trial at ContactUs@schedulo.uk or through the form below, and we'll arrange a time that suits you.

How much does it cost?

It depends on which products you need, how many people will use them and for how long. Tell us at ContactUs@schedulo.uk and we'll send you a price.

Schedulo TXC

Which files can Schedulo TXC open?

Any TransXChange 2.4 or 2.5 file, whatever software made it. Several files can be combined into one project. You can also import GTFS, spreadsheets, and an operator's services published on the Bus Open Data Service (BODS).

Will my files still work in other software?

Yes. Schedulo TXC reads and writes standard TransXChange 2.4 and 2.5, checks exports against the official schema, and keeps everything it doesn't edit exactly as it was. A fidelity check compares each export with the original.

Will my files pass BODS?

Schedulo TXC runs the same kinds of checks before you publish: XML and XSD schema validation, data consistency, the UK PTI rules BODS uses (each citing its section) and operational sense checks. Every problem is explained in plain English and links to the object concerned.

What is the browser version?

Schedulo-TXC.html is the same app in one file you open with a double-click, for computers where you can't run programs. Chrome and Edge save back over your file; Firefox and Safari download a new copy each time. Keys locked to one computer don't work in the browser.

Can several people work on the same timetable?

Yes. Host a session and colleagues join with View only, Edit or Full access, from the Windows app or the browser version. Sessions are end-to-end encrypted, with an activity log, change history and approval before export.

Do I need a BODS API key?

Only for live punctuality and for importing from BODS. The key is free from the Bus Open Data Service. Live punctuality can also come from bustimes.org.

Can it print timetables and stop posters?

Yes, in 22 styles: timetables, timetable books, bus-stop posters and notices, in Welsh and English, with accessible large-print layouts.

Does it work with ticket machines?

Yes. Each service and journey can carry its ticket machine (ETM) service code, journey code and direction, and Export for Ticketer writes one file for each day type, so Ticketer imports the duties and running boards as well as the journeys.

Schedulo Bus

Do I need Schedulo TXC to use Schedulo Bus?

No. Schedulo Bus can import TransXChange files directly. With Schedulo TXC, the blocks and duties you plan go back into the project, so the timetable you publish carries each journey's block number and duty.

Will Schedulo Bus change my timetable?

Never directly. Your registered timetable stays in charge: block numbers and duties go back through Schedulo TXC's "Bring back workings and duties", where they are checked before they are saved.

Can it find the fewest buses?

Yes. OPTIMIZE proposes the fewest buses and lowest cost, and shows the difference in buses, duties and cost. You ACCEPT it or KEEP MINE, and work you've locked stays as it is.

Which drivers' rules does it check?

Breaks, duty length, relief points and signing on, with your own pay rules for which breaks are paid. Issues say what's wrong in plain words.

What can I print for drivers?

Duty cards in five layouts (receipt slip on 80 or 58 mm paper, pocket card, A4 with a day bar, A4 list and lanyard card), running boards in dozens of designs, duty summaries and duty lists, and vehicle and duty charts. Everything can be printed or saved as PDF files, in your own brand kit.

Can it print timetables for passengers?

Yes. Schedulo Bus prints public timetables in 12 layouts (from the classic grid to a leaflet that folds to DL) and times at a stop in 10 (from a pole strip to a shelter poster), from the timetable's own journeys.

Can it print in another language?

Yes. Each print can be in English, Dutch, German, French, Polish, Russian or Ukrainian without changing the app's language, with dates in that language too.

What if I make a mistake?

Changes to vehicles and drivers stay a draft until you press SAVE, and Undo takes a change back. The planning is backed up every day, with 30 days of copies kept.

Can colleagues plan with me?

Yes. Start sharing and send colleagues the join code, which works on the office network and from anywhere else, then let them in with View only, Edit or Full. The computers connect peer to peer, encrypted end to end, with nothing to set up on the router.

Licences, data and help

How do I get a licence key?

E-mail Licence@schedulo.uk with the name and company the key should show. Paste the key in on first start and you're ready to go. Keys can run for a set time, to the end of the financial year, or be perpetual, and one key can cover several Schedulo products.

Can I use my key on another computer?

A key works on any computer unless it was locked to one. To move a locked key, e-mail Licence@schedulo.uk with the new computer's code, shown on the activation screen.

What happens when my licence runs out?

A key ends at 23:59 UK time on its expiry day, and Schedulo TXC warns you in its status bar 14 days before. Your files stay on your computer. E-mail Licence@schedulo.uk to renew.

Where is my data kept?

On your own computer. There's no Schedulo server and no account, and the licence is checked offline. When you work together, changes go straight between your computers.

How do I get updates?

Each Schedulo app checks for a newer version when it opens and tells you when one is ready. What each release brings is listed under What's new.

Where do I get help?

E-mail Support@schedulo.uk. Say which product and version you use: the version is in the app's About screen.
